The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F55DX is a somewhat rare circa-2001 digicam that was only sold in Japan. This is a well-built camera featuring a metal body and a relatively fast, fixed Carl Zeiss Distagon 37mm (35mm equivalent) f2.8 lens. Its CCD sensor offers a claimed 3.3 megapixel resolution (this is figure is reached through interpolation, the native resolution is closer to 2.58 megapixels).

This is an early digicam, built when Sony designers were much more adventurous, the DSC-F55DX has some interesting features. One is the 180º swivelling head that allows you to take photos at unusual angles; another is the ability to switch off the LCD backlight (this greatly extends battery life).

This camera uses Memory Stick-type memory (a 64 MB Memory Stick is included) and normal AA batteries for power (not included). USB memory card readers with Memory Stick support are still widely available at online electronics shops (usually as 'multi-format' readers; Memory Stick is often abbreviated as 'MS').
